There are numerous new commers and start-up companies / contractors in the roofing and waterproofing industry, the majority of these do not have the knowledge or skill to deliver quality standards. As a result, consumers lose their hard-earned money to roofers/waterproofer’s who use imported materials that do not suit the South African weather and climate conditions, worse still, consumers are unable to get hold of the right service provider. And thus The Professional Roof Repair and Waterproofing Association was started in 2019 to act as the regulatory body and overseer for the industry, implementing minimum standards and assuring quality by ensuring its members are fully vetted, trained, certified and credible.
In order to qualify as a member of PRAWA all contractors are required to have a registered company, a valid tax clearance certificate, public liability insurance, workman’s compensation and all the other relevant legislative requirements.
There are many skilled and honourable roofing and waterproofing companies in South Africa, the dilemma the consumers face, is that they do not know who these are and how to tell the “good” from the “bad”. The purpose of PRAWA is to regulate and streamline the roof repair and waterproofing industry, by ensuring the end user, gets value for money and the contractor is accountable for service delivery excellence.
