What is a Certificate of Compliance?

The Professional Roof Repair and Waterproofing Association Certificate of Compliance is a system and process whereby a designated roof repair and waterproofing applicator will self-certify their work by issuing of a certificate of compliance to the relevant owner, municipality, local authority and/or insurance company. 

Through the process the certified roof repair and waterproofing applicator shall take ownership for their roofing and or waterproofing work and be held accountable for the said works. Roofing Repair and Waterproofing Certificates of Compliance are issued by certified roof repair and waterproofing applicators to certify that their roofing and or waterproofing work complies with all regulatory installations requirements laid out in the minimum standard guidelines.

A Roofing certificate of compliance shall be logged to the relevant owner with five working days of the completion of the said roof repair and or waterproofing works. Only a certified roof repair and waterproofing applicator may purchase and issue compliance certificates.

It is illegal for any person who works on roof repair and waterproofing installation if he/she is not a certified roof repair and waterproofing applicator or not working under the adequate supervision of a certified roof repair and waterproofing applicator. Registered persons under the category of certified roof repair and waterproofing applicator are certified roof repair and waterproofing applicators and may carry out roof repair and or waterproofing works and may supervise non-certified roof repair and waterproofing applicator or roof repair and waterproofing application learners, however they will not be allowed to purchase or issue Roof repair and waterproofing application Certificates Compliance for roof repair and waterproofing installations.

In order to issue COC’s you must be approved as an individual member as well as a company member of PRAWA.

Once your application for Individual PRAWA Membership has been approved you will need to achieve your designation as Licensed Roof Repair and Waterproofing Applicator.

Only Licensed Roof Repair and Waterproofing Applicators may issue COCs, this can be done through PRAWA’s RPL Program whereby you will demonstrate that you are able to work according to minimum industry standards using your existing skills and experience or via a CETA Accredited training provider – please contact us for details. 

By choosing to do your RPL through a CETA accredited training provider you will not only be awarded your designation as a Licensed Roof Repair and Waterproofing Applicator but you will also have achieved your NQF Level 2 in Roof Repair and Waterproofing.

Once you have been approved as both a member as well as having successfully achieved your designation  you will be given the log in details for your individual PRAWA member profile under which you will be able to purchase your Certificates of compliance and start issuing them either digitally or as a physical copy.

Once you have purchased your COCs, fill in the relevant information and issue them to your clients, this can be done as a physically or via email.

In order to ensure our contractors remain accountable, is is the responsibility of The Professional Roof Repair and Waterproofing Association to randomly audit 5% of allocated COC’s. Read more about the Auditing Process
